The ScrumMaster role is one of the most important positions within the Scrum Team – operating as a servant leader, removing impediments and empowering the Scrum Team to successfully achieve their objectives. However, without undertaking formal Scrum Alliance certified training, undertaking this role and facilitating the implementation of Scrum can be a daunting prospect.
Therefore, whether you’re looking to progress your Agile career further, seeking personal development or aiming to validate your existing knowledge and experience with a formal certification then the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course is the one for you.
The benefits of becoming a Certified ScrumMaster
As one of the most popular and recognised certifications available across the Agile industry, the Scrum Alliance’s Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course provides delegates with a detailed insight into the Scrum framework, from theory and foundations to implementation and potential pitfalls, enabling you to be a successful member of the Scrum team, and in particular an effective ScrumMaster.
In addition to 2-days of high-quality training from a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer, the course also offers delegates:
- Formal recognition of the required knowledge and ability to implement Scrum
- Opportunities for career progression across all industry sectors
- Chance to meet and engage with many other Agile professionals
You’ll also automatically obtain a 2-year membership to the Scrum Alliance®, allowing you to access online resources and join local user groups and social networks.
Scrum Alliance Certified Training
So how do you go about becoming a Certified ScrumMaster? The first step is to locate and book yourself onto a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course – when doing so, ensure that the training is delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (like agil8’s CEO David Hicks 😉). This is vital as only Certified Scrum Trainers are able to deliver Scrum Alliance Certified courses (including the CSM) – and only they are able to register you with the Scrum Alliance to gain the subsequent certification.
There are no prerequisites for the course, however students are expected to complete the pre-course reading. This will primarily involve reading the Scrum Guide, and familiarising yourself with Scrum terms, definitions, roles and artifacts.
The Certification Exam
Once you’ve successfully completed the 2-day Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course, your trainer will register your attendance with the Scrum Alliance who will subsequently send you an email inviting you to take the exam online. The Certified ScrumMaster exam must be completed within 90 days.
You will have 60 minutes to complete the exam, and must correctly answer at least 37 questions out of 50 (74% pass mark). Once you have passed the exam, you will receive a PDF certificate to save electronically or print a physical copy.
Agil8’s Certified Scrum Trainers typically train over 1700 Certified ScrumMasters and Scrum Product Owners every year. To view all of our upcoming course dates, as well as the full course content that is covered over the 2 days simply click here.
